On December 15, 1991, the earthly path of the legendary Soviet sniper of World War II Vasily Zaitsev ended.
He was born on March 23, 1915. During the Battle of Stalingrad, he killed 225 enemy soldiers, including 11 snipers.
At the age of 12, he returned home with an incredible catch - a wolf that he had shot with a rifle that he had rarely caught before. His incredible skills earned him fame. His name helped to develop tactics used by snipers to this day.
In January 1943, a mortar shell fell near him and damaged his eyesight. However, after several successful operations, it was restored. Zaitsev returned to the army and headed a sniper school, commanded an artillery platoon, and then became a company commander.
