The world community is actively participating in a large-scale flashmob called All Eyes On Rafah ("All Eyes on Rafah". Hundreds of thousands of posts appeared on social networks under the relevant hashtag. The campaign aims to draw attention to the situation in the Gaza Strip, the world media reports.

The initiative consists in the active distribution of a photo depicting the campaign slogan against the background of refugee tents.

Thus, the international community calls to pay attention to the situation in Rafah (a city in the southern part of the Gaza Strip), where today 1.5 million people are forced to seek salvation.

„People live in refugee tents and are in dire need of humanitarian aid, but they cannot get it in sufficient quantities”, international publications report.

The campaign is gaining momentum in social networks in different countries, but most in Europe, Australia and India, writes Forbes magazine.

When and why it all started

According to the researchers, the slogan appeared after a comment by Rick Piperkorn, an official of the World Health Organization (WHO). He uttered the phrase in February after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered a plan to evacuate the town of Rafah ahead of the destruction of suspected remaining Hamas sites.

Organizations that support the people of the Gaza Strip, such as Save the Children, Oxfam, Americans for Justice in Palestine, Jewish Voice for Peace and the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, also use the slogan.

The situation in Rafah

On the evening of May 26, Israel carried out airstrikes on a camp for displaced persons northwest of the city of Rafah. At least 50 people died then, including women and children.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted that the Israeli strike on the town of Rafah in the Gaza Strip, which killed civilians, was a "tragic mistake".

„Despite our best efforts to minimize civilian casualties, a tragic mistake occurred. We will investigate and find out the reasons for what happened, because this is our policy," Netanyahu told the Israeli parliament.

Opinions of international leaders

Following an airstrike that killed at least 50 people, the European Union decided to review its relations with Israel. Union foreign ministers were meeting in Brussels as the Israeli army shelled areas of the Gaza Strip where families were housed. The day before, the International Court of Justice ruled that Israel must immediately stop its military offensive in Rafah.

These calls were joined by Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Qatar, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.

A little earlier, the UN International Court of Justice called on Israel to stop its offensive against Rafah in Gaza.

According to the BBC, the court ruled that Israel must immediately halt its military offensive and other activities in Rafah due to “imminent danger” for the Palestinian people.

International Court of Justice President Nawaf Salam said the situation risks irreparable harm to the rights of Gazans.
