The Russian Ekaterina Poistogova has been stripped of the silver medal in the 800 meters at the Olympic Games in London in 2012 due to a violation of anti-doping rules, the Russian Athletics Federation announced, BTA reported. p>
"The period of the sanction is from March 28, 2024 to March 27, 2026, taking into account the two years of disqualification served by the athlete in accordance with the decision in the case of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). All her results obtained from July 17, 2012 to October 20, 2014 are cancelled," the announcement said.
In February 2017, the CAS found Russian Maria Savinova guilty of using banned substances based on her biological passport and stripped the Russian of her 2012 Olympic gold medals in the 800m, the 2011 World Championships and the European 2010. Therefore, Poistogova, who finished third, became a silver medalist in the 800 meters.
After reviewing the results of the Olympic Games, the silver medal will go to the representative of Kenya Pamela Jelimo, and the bronze to the American Alicia Montano.
From 2021, Poistogova competes for the national team of Turkey under the name Guliyev.
