With smaller dimensions, the solid-state battery achieves the equivalent level of energy density of lithium-ion batteries, which is 200 Wh/L. A non-flammable solid electrolyte is used to charge and discharge the innovation, which increases safety and resistance to external factors, and also allows creating different shapes even with ultra-compact dimensions.
The latter is made possible thanks to a special production process: thin layers of electrode and solid electrolyte materials are first printed, then laid and cut one after the other, which prevents the formation of folds.
In addition, according to the manufacturer, the change in volume of the new battery during charging is minimal, so no additional space is needed. This factor is also important in the creation of small portable gadgets. It is not yet known when and which devices will first receive the new solid-state battery.
