The Renault Grand Koleos, which is a facelifted Geely Monjaro, is currently in production in South Korea and is exclusive to the local market. However, according to The Korea Times, this car will also appear outside the country in the near future. Renault plans to launch the model in the Middle East and Africa. At the same time, the export version will get rid of the Grand name and will probably be positioned as a new generation Koleos.
Grand Koleos debuted in the summer of this year and became the first joint project of Renault and Geely. The French have borrowed from the Monjaro the power structure of the coupe and the hybrid power plant with which the model is sold on the Chinese market (there it is called Xingyue L). The differences come down to the external design: the car has a frameless radiator grille, in which the optics of the original Monjaro fit very harmoniously.
In South Korea, the Grand Koleos is available with the E-Tech petrol-electric powertrain, which includes a 1.5-litre petrol engine and an electric motor. There is also an alternative in the form of a two-liter diesel engine with 211 horsepower: in Grand Koleos with front-wheel drive, the engine is combined with a seven-speed "robot", and in all-wheel drive - with an eight-range automatic.
In the South Korean market, the crossover caused a stir: during the launch, local Renault dealers received several hundred orders every day, and in 11 days the number exceeded seven thousand units.
That is probably why Renault thought about expanding the geography of sales. In the Middle East and Africa, it is planned to sell both Koleos with a two-liter diesel engine and a hybrid system, Korean journalists reported. The time of the model's appearance outside of South Korea has not yet been announced.
