This summer, a prototype of a long-haul truck known as the Scania Longline has been undergoing intensive road testing, attracting attention with its extended cab. The vehicle was recently spotted in Switzerland, tested on the famous Oberhallau mountain road. This stretch is famous for its annual hillclimb competition - a 3-kilometer track with a significant height difference of 157 meters, which provides ideal conditions for testing the power and stability of the tractor.
The Scania Longline features the most spacious cab of all Scania models, which is not surprising, since it is a full 1.1 meters longer than the standard one. This extended cab, bearing the CS31 type, is not manufactured at Scania's main plant, but is the work of a specialized company - Laxa Special Vehicles AB. It is their expertise in modifying cabs that allows for the creation of such a spacious and functional space for long-distance drivers.
As can be seen from the photos of the prototype, the tractor is equipped with the most powerful engine in the Scania range - a V8 unit that generates an impressive 730 horsepower. The vehicle has a 6x2 wheel formula, with the rear axle being steerable, which contributes to better maneuverability despite the extended cab. The company plans to launch the tractor with the extra-long cab on the market in the first half of 2026.
It should be noted that this will be the second "birth" of the Scania Longline model. The first happened more than twenty years ago, when a tractor unit with a cab extended by 1.3 meters was created on the basis of the fourth-generation Scania. This early model, also manufactured by Laxa Special Vehicles AB, began production in the fall of 2003. It offered an interior layout with a soft corner and a wide sofa, a kitchen module with a sink, as well as a section with a TV and a video recorder, providing home comfort for drivers.
The first generation Scania Longline was available with the most powerful unit of its time with a power of 580 horsepower and was produced in a limited series. The return of the Longline concept shows the growing market demand for more comfortable and functional workspaces for heavy truck drivers, especially on long international routes. The new model is expected to continue the tradition of innovation and comfort, offering leading solutions in transportation.
