U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters that Taiwan may not feature prominently in his talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, though he left open the possibility that Xi might raise the issue.
"I don't know if we're going to talk about Taiwan at all," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One, adding: "There's not much to ask about. Taiwan is in Taiwan."
Trump shifted focus to Taiwan's tech sector, highlighting plans by the world's largest chipmaker, TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company), to build a major plant in Arizona. He also cited the role of Nvidia Corp. in expanding U.S. production, saying that within two years the U.S. could control 40-50% of the global chip market.
