Trump: I said some very strong words to European leaders - 1

US President Donald Trump said that he said "some very strong words" to the leaders of the three European powers in their conversation about Ukraine yesterday, Agence France-Presse reported.

Earlier, Keir Starmer's office reported, quoted by DPA, that the British Prime Minister discussed the topic with Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, at a time when "intensive work" on the peace plan continues. All leaders agreed that this is a "critical moment" on the future of Ukraine and Euro-Atlantic security, the communiqué says.

Trump, for his part, announced, quoted by AFP, that European leaders want to organize a meeting on Ukraine at the end of this week, but made it clear that the participation of the United States is not guaranteed.

"Before we go to the meeting, there are things that we want to know... We don't want to waste our time", the US president said at the White House.

"Sometimes you have to let people fight to the end, and sometimes you don't", he added significantly.

Trump made this statement at a time when US relations with Europe are under serious strain, DPA notes.

Agence France-Presse points out that Trump has recently expressed dissatisfaction with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky several times, criticizing him for not reading proposed by the United States peace plan.

Yesterday, the US president said significantly that Ukraine has not held elections for a long time, putting additional pressure on Zelensky, Reuters notes.

A day earlier, the Ukrainian president expressed his readiness to call elections if it is guaranteed that they will be held in a secure environment.

Russia considers Zelensky an illegitimate leader, arguing that his mandate has expired. However, the Ukrainian authorities claim that they cannot call elections because martial law has been introduced in the country while it defends itself against Russia.

Ukraine, meanwhile, announced that it had presented its version of the plan designed to end the war with Russia to the US yesterday. Kiev did not give details on the matter, AFP reports.
