Polish President Karol Nawrocki was not aware of the plans of the country's armed forces to transfer its MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine in exchange for Ukrainian missile and drone technology, claims Marcin Przydach, head of the Presidential Bureau for International Policy.
„Surprised by these statements made by the government, as well as by high-ranking officers of the Polish army, who speak of specific plans in this area“, Przydach is quoted by onet.pl.
He noted that the country's commander-in-chief should also participate in resolving such issues. „I note with sadness that the president was not informed. This is a sign of unprofessionalism on the part of the government,“ said the head of the bureau.
He stressed that the lack of consultation with Nawrocki could indicate “bad will and an attempt to once again cut off the president from information that is important for the Polish state“.
Earlier, the General Staff of the Polish Army published a communiqué stating that Warsaw was ready to transfer decommissioned MiG-29 fighters to Kiev. It noted that the aircraft had already reached the end of their service life and “there are no prospects for their further modernization“, which is why it is planned to replace them with F-16 and FA-50 fighters.
