The number of marriages in Turkey has decreased, while the number of divorces has increased - 1

In 2025, the number of couples in Turkey who got married fell by over 17,000, and the number of divorces increased by nearly 5,000, according to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT), published on February 24 and cited by the website “Türkiye Today“, BTA reported.

According to official data, the number of marriages in Turkey decreased from 569,983 in 2024 to 552,237 in 2025, bringing the total marriage rate to 6.43 per 1,000 people. At the same time, the number of divorces increased from 188,963 in 2024 to 193,793 in 2025, bringing the overall divorce rate to 2.26 per 1,000 people.

According to the data, in 2025, the most marriages were concluded in the southern Turkish district of Gaziantep (7.76 per 1,000 people), and the top places were occupied by the districts of Osmaniye (7.68 per 1,000 people) and Şanlıurfa (7.5 per 1,000 people), which are also located in the southern part of Turkey. The fewest marriages were recorded in the eastern province of Tunceli (4.18 per 1,000 people) and the northeastern provinces of Gümüşhane and Ardahan (4.58 and 4.67 per 1,000 people).

Meanwhile, the highest divorce rates were recorded in the western province of Izmir (3.28 per 1,000 people), as well as in the provinces of Antalya (3.21 per 1,000 people) and Denizli (3.14 per 1,000 people), the data also showed. The lowest divorce rates were recorded in the provinces of Hakkari, Sirnak and Bitlis (0.51, 0.52 and 0.63 per 1,000 people, respectively) in eastern Turkey.
