Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehamer said that Turkey can play a key role in the eventual end of the war in Ukraine, the Austrian APA agency reported, quoted by BTA.
"I think that Turkey is important because it has influence on both countries (...)", the chancellor said in an interview with the German newspaper "Zeit". In the previously obtained interview, he presented a scenario that, according to him, could end the war in Ukraine.
In addition to Turkey, "India and China also have a very significant role,", Nehamer said. "Also the USA and, of course, Germany, France. If there is any way I can contribute, I would be happy to do so," adds the Austrian chancellor.
He presented his idea of a way to achieve peace in Ukraine. "We see that the countries that have a strong influence on Russia are not moving in the same direction as the West. Among them are Brazil, India, China, South Africa. It is important to develop a strategy with these countries," he said.
Nehamer also spoke about the peace plan of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky – "in my opinion, this is the basis on which our conversations should rest". This is the "Ukrainian position". "The question is how do we get one of these players, like India or China, to think about this format. If this works out, then there is a chance that we will actually achieve peace," the chancellor said.
Until then, it is "very important to support Ukraine very strongly (...) so that the Russian side can see that no one benefits from this war". At the same time, Russia "cannot be ruled out" from Europe.
Zelensky's ten-point plan calls for Russia's complete withdrawal from all occupied territories in Ukraine, as well as reparations and punishment of war criminals. The request for full withdrawal also includes the Ukrainian territories annexed by Russia.
