At least 10 people died in a fire that broke out early this morning at a nursing home in the town of Villafranca del Ebro, near Zaragoza in northern Spain, Reuters reported, citing regional authorities in the Aragon region, as quoted by BTA.
The fire broke out around 05:00 local time (06:00 Bulgarian time), and firefighters needed several hours to put it out, a spokesman for the authorities said. He added that at this stage there is no information whether all the victims were residents of the home, in which a total of 82 people live.
One person was hospitalized in critical condition, and several others were admitted with minor complaints, primarily due to smoke inhalation.
Firefighters who came from the Zaragoza region, located about 35 kilometers from the city, as well as emergency workers and police, are still working at the scene. The cause of the fire is being clarified.
