Sunak confirmed: Our planes shot down Iranian drones - 1

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that British military planes shot down Iranian drones during last night's attack on Israel and called for "prudence to prevail" to avoid an escalation of the conflict, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

"I can confirm that our planes did shoot down several Iranian attack drones," Sunak told the media.

"If this attack was successful, the implications for regional stability could hardly be overstated. We support the security of Israel and the wider region, which of course is also important for our security here at home. What we need now is for prudence and prudence to prevail," he added.

Sunak is expected to join discussions between G7 leaders later today.

"It is important to coordinate with allies and at this point we will discuss the next steps," he said.

British Defense Secretary Grant Shapps, in turn, told the X network that over the weekend Britain had sent additional aircraft to the area to boost its presence, and that the drones intercepted by those aircraft had been "launched by Iran and its allies".

Meanwhile, two Western intelligence sources said most of the Iranian drones that flew over Syrian airspace during Tehran's strikes last night were shot down by Israeli and US aircraft before reaching their targets in Israel.
