The Security Council of the United Nations is obliged not to leave Iran's actions unanswered, the deputy permanent representative of the United States to the United Nations, Robert Wood, said at the emergency meeting in New York today, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
"Iran will be held accountable if the country or armed groups it supports take action against the United States or launch new attacks against Israel. In the coming days, the US will explore the possibility of additional measures to hold Iran accountable. The Security Council must strongly condemn Iran's aggressive actions and call on Tehran and its allies to end their attacks, Wood added.
The emergency meeting of the UN Security Council was called because of Iran's drone and missile attack on Israel last night, which was in response to an alleged Israeli strike on the Iranian consulate in the Syrian capital of Damascus on April 1. Senior commanders in Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were killed in the attack.
