The head of Israel's military intelligence, Aharon Haliva, has resigned over the failures related to the unprecedented attack by "Hamas" on October 7 last year, which overcame Israel's defenses, considered impregnable, the Associated Press reported, citing a statement from the country's armed forces, BTA writes.
Haliva became the first senior Israeli military official to resign over the Hamas attack, which killed 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and captured around 250 more. The attack led to a more than six-month-long war against "Hamas" in Gaza.
Shortly after the attack in October, Haliva said he took the blame for failing to prevent it.
An Israeli military statement said Israel's chief of general staff accepted Haliva's request to be released and thanked him for his service.
Haliva's resignation could lead to more senior security officials taking the blame for failing to prevent the attack and stepping down, AP notes.
