Poland has no territorial claims to Ukraine , as claimed by Russian propaganda in order to push the two countries against each other, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Szykorski said, quoted by the Ukrinform agency, writes BTA.
However, the Kremlin will never be able to sow such enmity, the minister pointed out in a speech before the Polish parliament, setting out the priorities of Polish foreign policy for this year.
As the Polish first diplomat emphasized, Ukraine has the right to independently determine its future within its internationally recognized borders.
"Russia is lying about alleged Polish plans to annex parts of Ukraine. Donbass is Ukraine, Crimea is Ukraine, Lviv, Volyn, ancient Eastern Galicia are also Ukraine. That's why I repeat so that the Kremlin can also hear me (and he added in Ukrainian): Lviv is Ukraine", said Shikorski to the applause of the Polish MPs.
The minister noted that Russian leaders and propagandists are trying to push Poles and Ukrainians against each other, but they will not succeed.
"And on this front they will fail", said Shikorski.
Over the past two years, Poland has provided Ukraine with military aid worth around 8.4 billion euros ($9 billion), the minister said, quoted by DPA.
A total of 44 packages of military aid have been handed over to Kiev from Warsaw, Sikorski told the Polish parliament.
Poland has provided Ukraine with 300 tanks and combat vehicles, 14 fighter jets, as well as helicopters, air defense systems and ammunition, military experts say.
The Polish foreign minister also said that since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, Warsaw has spent 16 billion euros on humanitarian aid for Ukraine itself and to support Ukrainian refugees in Poland.
Warsaw wants to restore its relations with Germany, which were deteriorated by the previous populist nationalist government, and to strengthen those with Paris, especially within the framework of trilateral cooperation in the Weimar Triangle, Sikorski also said, quoted by France Presse.
"We are in the process of restoring our relations with Germany, we have abandoned the rhetoric of confrontation and returned to dialogue in substance," the minister said.
However, Szykorski emphasized that the interests of Poland and Germany "do not overlap" and accused Berlin of having for years taken an "opportunistic position towards Russia".
The previous government of "Law and Justice" (PiS), which was in power from 2015-2023, regularly played the anti-German card, accusing Berlin of an "anti-Polish policy" and plots against Polish interests within the European Union.
Szykorski also reiterated Poland's expectations for reparations from Germany for the Second World War period, without using the term "war reparations,", although Berlin considers that a closed issue, notes AFP.
