The leader of the far-right party "Alternative for Germany" defended the actions of his party in connection with the allegations of alleged cooperation of its leading politicians with Russia and China, reported DPA, quoted by BTA.
"We will draw clear conclusions if the allegations against Kra and Bistron are confirmed," Tino Krupala told TV "Cet De Ef" last night.
Both have given written assurances that the allegations are not true and therefore the presumption of innocence applies.
Maximilian Kra, a member of the European Parliament, is the leading candidate of the AzG for the European elections in June, and Peter Bistron, who is an MP of the AzG in the Bundestag, is second on the list.
Following allegations in the media of alleged ties to pro-Russian networks and receiving money, prosecutors began reviewing the cases to determine whether investigations were needed against the two politicians.
Cra has come under pressure as one of his staff was arrested on suspicion of espionage for China.
In a heated televised debate, Christian Democratic Union politician Armin Laschet attacked Krupala, saying that “never before in Germany have there been such conditions for such a degree of betrayal”. “If you were as convinced as you make yourself out to be here, would you be sending Kra on every talk show to prove your innocence? Please don't take us and the German people for fools!“
Cra will not take part in tomorrow's AFG campaign launch event with party leaders Alice Weidel and Krupala in Donaueschingen in southwest Germany as planned. There will also be no videos with his participation.
