Palestinian groups "Fatah" have expressed political will to seek reconciliation through dialogue during the unity talks in Beijing, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said today, as quoted by Reuters. BTA.
The two factions have not been able to iron out political disputes between them, which began in 2007, when fighters of "Hamas“ expelled "Fatah“ from the Gaza Strip in a short war, and the current talks are taking place against the backdrop of Israel's war against "Hamas" in Gaza.
"Representatives of the Palestinian movement for national unity "Fatah“ and the Islamist group "Hamas” arrived in Beijing a few days ago for in-depth and open talks”, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian told a regular briefing.
"They agreed to continue the talks in the same vein to achieve the realization of Palestinian solidarity and unity as soon as possible,'' Lin added, adding that both sides of the talks thanked Beijing for its efforts to "promotes intra-Palestinian unity and have agreed to hold further talks”.
At the same time, Israel expects a response from "Hamas” on the proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of the hostages before the country sends a team to Cairo to continue talks, a source close to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said today, quoted by Reuters.
