Federal Bureau of Investigation agents of the United States (FBI) searched the apartment of Shane Coplan, director of the bookmaker Polymarket, who predicted that the Republican Donald Trump would win the presidential election on November 5.
This was reported on Wednesday by the newspaper The New York Post, citing its sources.
According to them, Koplan's phone and other electronic devices were confiscated during the action. The reason for the raid was not explained to the Polymarket boss, but the publication's sources suspect it may be “political retribution” about the fact that the bookmaker, “unlike traditional polls, accurately predicted an easy victory for Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris.“
Agency Bloomberg in turn reported that the investigation launched by the Department of Justice against Polymarket was due to the fact that the platform was able to accept bets from US residents despite the ban imposed on it in 2022 by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
