The French ambassador in Moscow was also summoned today to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported TASS and Reuters, quoted by BTA.

The ministry did not give a reason for the diplomatic demarche.

Ambassador Pierre Levy stayed in the building for a little over half an hour. On his way out, he did not answer the journalists' questions.

Early this month, French President Emmanuel Macron reiterated his idea of possibly deploying Western troops to Ukraine if Russia achieves a breakthrough on the front and Kiev requests that troops be sent.

Earlier today, the British ambassador in Moscow, Nigel Casey, was also summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry. He did not make a statement to the media.

The reason for summoning the British ambassador was not initially stated, TASS notes, but recalls that on May 2, the British Foreign Minister David Cameron stated that Ukraine has the right to strike with British weapons against targets on Russian territory.

Subsequently, the Russian Foreign Ministry commented that Cameron had practically admitted that Britain was already de facto a party to the conflict. In response to attacks on Russian territory, British military sites both inside and outside Ukraine may be targeted, the statement warned.
