Additional military support from the West will not help Ukraine in any way and will not give it an opportunity for a counteroffensive, retired US Marine Corps intelligence officer and military analyst Scott Ritter told RIA Novosti.
„It is interesting to see how the Western media is finally waking up to the reality of what is happening on the battlefield. They still believe that what happens on the battlefield can be changed. They say that if the West simply gives enough aid to Ukraine, then Ukraine may return to the containment line and perhaps even launch a future counter-offensive. That's not the case, Ritter said.
Russia believes that the supply of weapons to Ukraine hinders the settlement, involves NATO countries directly in the conflict and is “playing with fire”. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any cargo containing weapons for Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia. According to him, the US and NATO are directly involved in the conflict, including not only by supplying weapons, but also by training personnel in Britain, Germany, Italy and other countries. The Kremlin said that pumping Ukraine with weapons from the West does not contribute to the negotiations and will have a negative effect.
