Russian Consul General in Esfahan Andrey Zhiltsov stressed the need to increase the trade volume between Iran and Russia, saying that the current trade volume has not reached its maximum capacity, Iranian news agencies IRNA and BTA reported.
Zhiltsov said in an exclusive interview with IRNA that the trade volume between Iran and Russia is just over four billion dollars, which is insignificant considering the existing capacity.
He said that the joint Iranian-Russian economic commission has emphasized the need to expand bilateral cooperation in the fields of space, aviation, shipbuilding, peaceful nuclear energy, oil production, natural gas, as well as refining, transportation, science, medicine , agriculture, finance, education, culture and tourism.
He also pointed out that some 6.5 million Russian tourists visited Turkey in 2023, but only 10,000 Russians visited Iran that year, calling for joint efforts to increase this number.
The Consul General also emphasized that the two friendly countries can play a key role in creating a new world order, free from unilateralism, to guarantee a just world.
In the current situation, the support that Iran and Russia provide to each other at the international level is of great importance, he said. According to Zhiltsov, the holding of economic, political, scientific and sports events is of a strategic nature to achieve this goal.
Zhiltsov also mentioned the preparation of a road map that would pave the way for deepening cooperation between the Iranian city of Esfahan and Russian Tatarstan. The Russian Consulate General in Esfahan plans to expand cooperation with Iran's chamber of commerce, higher education and religious centers, he said.
The two countries plan to develop relations between various Russian regions with Iranian provinces such as Yazd and Kerman.
The Russian envoy noted that Esfahan is a wonderful, cultural, authentic, clean, cozy and comfortable city, calling for more cooperation between Esfahan and St. Petersburg.
