Demonstrators protesting Israel's war against the Palestinian Islamist movement "Hamas" in the Gaza Strip, seized one of the buildings at the University of California in Los Angeles, which was ransacked and covered with graffiti, the Associated Press reported, citing BTA, citing local television channels.

Yesterday, pro-Palestinian demonstrators barricaded themselves inside the high-rise student services building and told those working there to take cover, but it was empty this morning, university spokesman Eric Hollins said.

"What I can tell you right now is that the building has been cleared of officers and protesters and is secured," said Hollins, who did not elaborate on what happened overnight.

The university posted a "protest action alert" on its website, announcing that all classes and events on the main campus would be suspended until further notice and urging people not to enter the campus, Reuters noted.

Photos from the scene show graffiti on the walls of the building, furniture barricading doors and overturned golf carts, picnic tables and umbrellas blocking the plaza.
