South Korean and US senior officials have had urgent phone talks ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin's upcoming visit to North Korea , the South Korean Foreign Ministry announced this morning, quoted by Reuters and BTA.
South Korea's Vice Foreign Minister Kim Hong-kyun said in a telephone conversation with US Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell that Putin's possible visit should not lead to deepening military cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow in a violation of UN Security Council regulations, the ministry in Seoul said in a statement.
Sharing Kim's concern, Campbell pledged continued cooperation to address potential instability in the region and challenges resulting from such a visit.
A senior official in the presidential office in Seoul said Wednesday that Putin is expected to visit North Korea "in the coming days".
