A new NATO ground command will be deployed in Finland, Finnish Defense Minister Antti Hakanen told reporters yesterday, quoted by Reuters and BTA.
After being militarily neutral for decades, Finland joined NATO last year in response to Russian forces invading Ukraine.
"I am pleased to say that today all NATO countries have given political consent to Finland's political goals in the framework of NATO integration" Hakanen said.
"A NATO ground command will be located in Finland and there will be a ground presence", explained the Finnish minister.
Hakanen also said that the NATO command in Finland will be tasked with being responsible for land operations in Northern Europe and Scandinavia.
