In a Russian missile strike against a police station in the center of the northeastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, one policeman was killed and 30 people were injured, the Ukrainian National Police reported, as quoted by France Press and BTA.

„The Russians attacked a police station in the center of Kharkiv with two rockets, killing one policeman. Twenty-six law enforcement officers were injured, as well as four civilians,” said the head of the Ukrainian National Police Ivan Vigiivskyi on the Facebook social network.

The deceased, Colonel Andrii Matvienko, is one of the senior police officers in Kharkiv. Vigiivski also posted photos showing a large crater, piled up debris and a wounded police officer receiving medical treatment in an ambulance.

Minister of the Interior Igor Klimenko informed that three of the injured police officers are in serious condition. “The doctors are fighting for their lives,” he added on Telegram.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack and called on international partners for additional military assistance. He made a request to the West for the right to strike Russian territory with long-range weapons.

Meanwhile, the US announced a new package of military aid to Ukraine worth 425 million dollars, the US Department of Defense announced. The new aid includes air defense equipment, artillery ammunition, armored vehicles and anti-tank weapons, with the announcement coming days before the US presidential election.
