Russia's UN envoy: Ukraine war won't be solved in a day as Trump promises - 1

Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, said today that the war in Ukraine "cannot be settled in a day" in response to a question about Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's frequent claims that he could resolve the conflict in 24 hours if elected, Reuters reported, citing BTA.

Trump said, without elaborating, that if the US had a "real president" who was respected by Russian President Vladimir Putin, then Russia would not have dared to invade Ukraine in February 2022.

"I will settle this war between Putin and (Ukrainian President Volodymyr) Zelensky before I take office on January 20. I'm going to settle this war,'' Trump said last week during a debate with Democratic President Joe Biden. "I will get this done quickly, before I even take office," said the Republican candidate.

The presidential election in the United States will take place on November 5, according to Reuters.

The election result is important for Russia, despite its attempts to downplay it, because it will predetermine the extent of Washington's commitment to support Ukraine and the supply of modern weapons to Kiev, notes Reuters.

"The Ukrainian crisis cannot be settled in one day," Nebenzia said at a press conference on the occasion of the beginning of the Russian presidency of the UN Security Council in July.

Trump's campaign headquarters has not yet responded to requests for comment on Nebenzia's remarks.

The Kremlin has said that any peace plan for Ukraine proposed by a possible future Trump administration must take into account the reality on the ground, but that Putin remains open to talks, according to Reuters.
