Today, before the start of the NATO summit in Washington, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk signed a bilateral security agreement in Warsaw, reports DPA, quoted by BTA.

"Those who today defend Ukraine are also defending themselves,", Tusk said.

Zelensky called the agreement "ambitious".

"It is able to protect the lives of our people and oppose Russian evil," Zelensky said.

The agreement envisages the development of a plan by which "Russian missiles and drones fired in the direction of Poland can be shot down in Ukrainian airspace".

Zelensky arrived in Poland as his country was hit by massive Russian missile strikes that killed at least 26 people and hit a major children's hospital in Kiev.

"There are no words, documents, political statements that are sufficient to condemn the aggressor," Tusk said.

Poland is one of Ukraine's staunchest political and military supporters as Kiev tries to fend off a full-scale invasion now in its third year.

Poland is also very important as a gateway for Western military aid to Kiev.

In addition, it has taken in almost 1 million Ukrainian refugees.

Ukraine has already concluded security agreements with the EU and 19 individual countries, including the US, Japan and Germany, to formalize the military and civilian support already provided and preserve the prospect of further assistance.
