Germany is actively preparing for a possible war with Russia, as it believes that by 2029 the optimal conditions will be present The Russian Federation to go to war with NATO, reports Bild, citing a statement by Carsten Breuer, Commissioner General of the German Armed Forces.
"You must mark 2029 in your diary! Until then, a lot of work has to be done, we also have to be ready", said Gen. Carsten Breuer.
He also believes that in 5-8 years Russia will have about 1.5 million soldiers. This is roughly twice the number of troops deployed by Russia in Ukraine.
At the same time, the publication notes that the Bundeswehr now has 181,500 soldiers, which is 20,000 less than the target number of 203,000 soldiers. Therefore, the German authorities are considering the possibility of restoring compulsory military service.
The German media also analyzed the stocks of military equipment of both countries. According to the publication, Germany has fewer than 300 battle tanks, while the Russian Federation currently produces about 1,500 battle tanks annually. Also, the German army has record low stocks of ammunition, only enough for two days. It is noted that this is a violation of NATO's requirement that ammunition be sufficient for at least 30 days.
"The government has already drawn up the "Operational Plan of Germany" ("OPLAN DEU") - a document that describes how the military architecture of the FRG should be structured before a possible military conflict. Germany's main task is to ensure the deployment and supply of fuel, food and medical materials for NATO forces," the German publication adds.
