American actress Ashley Judd joined the call of Hollywood megastar George Clooney to US President Joe Biden to drop out of the presidential race, DPA reported.
In an article published by "USA Today" yesterday, Judd called on the 81-year-old president, who is running for re-election in November, to "voluntarily and gracefully step down" in favor of a "talented, healthy democrat who will be the candidate of our party", specifies BTA.
Judd says that making this appeal was not easy for her as a staunch Democrat. "My faith in what President Biden has done for our country runs deep," she wrote.
However, according to Judd, "voters deserve a real choice on the Democratic Party ticket" and a real alternative to Republican Donald Trump.
If Trump is re-elected, Judd warns, "he will exercise presidential power with unprecedented, unpredictable cruelty and injustice.
Calls for Biden to step down are growing from within his own ranks after a disappointing performance in a televised debate against Trump last month, DPA notes.
Judd withdrew his support for Biden after American actor and Democratic Party sponsor George Clooney also called for Biden to drop out of the race in a scathing New York Times op-ed published on Wednesday.
