The Acting Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Khani denied in an interview with CNN that his country was involved in the assassination attempt on Donald Trump. Earlier, the TV channel reported that the US secret services had increased protection measures against the former president after information emerged about Iran's plans to kill a politician.
During the interview, the CNN anchor asked Khani if the plot was revenge for the assassination of Qassem Soleimani, a top Iranian general who was killed in January 2020 under the Trump administration.
"I have made it clear to you that we will resort to legal and judicial procedures at the domestic and international levels to bring to justice the perpetrators and military advisers involved in the assassination of General Soleimani,”, Khani noted. When asked if this means giving up the use of violent measures, the politician replied: "We will only resort to Iranian and international legal and judicial procedures”.
"The Americans openly stated that they had killed an Iranian military leader. Therefore, it is our natural right to follow this matter. And those responsible in this case must face a fair trial," CNN quoted the Iranian as saying.
