A Su-27 fighter of the Russian Aerospace Forces escorted the RC-135 strategic reconnaissance aircraft and two Typhoon fighters of the British Air Force in the Black Sea, TASS reports, citing a statement from the Ministry of Defense in Moscow.
"On July 24, Russian airspace control means over the Black Sea detected air targets approaching the state border of the Russian Federation. In order to prevent the crossing of the state border of Russia, a Su-27 fighter from the Air Defense Forces was raised into the air. The crew of the Russian fighter jet identified the air targets as an RC-135 strategic reconnaissance aircraft and two Typhoon fighters of the British Air Force. As the Russian military aircraft approached, the foreign aircraft moved away from the state border of the Russian Federation. The Russian aircraft returned safely to its home airfield. There was no violation of the state border,“ the ministry said.
It is noted that the flight of the Russian fighter jet was carried out in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace over neutral waters, without crossing air routes or dangerously approaching aircraft of a foreign state.
