Air accident in Finland! Passenger plane fails to land due to GPS interference from neighboring Russia - 1

A passenger plane flying from Helsinki was unable to land in the city of Joensuu near the Russian border on Friday morning due to GPS system interference and returned to the capital. This was reported by the Finnish agency STT, referring to the Finnish airline Finnair.

As the Finnish press writes, the plane flew to Joensuu, made several circles over the airport, but failed to land. There were 21 passengers on board the plane. The company reissued their tickets for another flight.

The city of Joensuu and its airport are located in eastern Finland, about 70 kilometers from the border with Russia, where it borders a part of Karelia that was taken over by the Soviet Union.

This is not the first time Russia's neighbors have complained about GPS signal interference. As the Finnish broadcaster Yle recalls, one of these cases happened in June with the same plane in Joensuu - it failed to land in the same way and returned to Helsinki.
