A powerful storm caused floods in Rome - 1

A storm caused floods in Rome, ANSA reported, cited by BTA, citing the local authorities.

Short but powerful, it struck yesterday not only the Italian capital, but also other areas in the central and southern parts of the country, after a prolonged heat wave.

In less than an hour, 60 liters of rain per square meter fell in Rome - an amount equivalent to the norm for an autumn month.

Many areas in the Italian capital were flooded, with trees downed by the stormy winds. Streets and subways turned into rivers, and fences and tables and chairs in outdoor establishments were swept away.

The forecast for the coming days is for more thunderstorms and warm weather in Rome with temperatures up to 32 degrees Celsius.

A storm warning has been issued for most of northern Italy today.
