The death toll in Vietnam from typhoon "Yagi" rose to 281 people, and 67 people are still missing, authorities said, quoted by DPA and BTA.

"Yagi" is the strongest typhoon in North Vietnam in about 30 years.

More than 1,900 people were injured, the Vietnam Disaster Management Office said in a report. According to the disaster management office, the typhoon damaged about 235,000 homes. Over 2.6 million farm animals were killed, mostly poultry and livestock, and over 200,000 hectares of rice fields were significantly damaged.

Flooding has now receded, but affected areas are still struggling with cleanup efforts.

According to the initial estimates of the Vietnamese government, typhoon "Yagi" has caused about $1.6 billion in preliminary damage to Vietnam, causing a loss of about 0.15% of gross domestic product that year.

The typhoon previously passed through the Philippines and China.
