"Telegram" will take a new approach to content moderation, limiting opportunities for abuse, the head of the company, Pavel Durov, said today, quoted by Reuters and BTA.

He specified that, in particular, certain functions that have been used for illegal activities will be removed.

"99.999 percent of users of "Telegram" have nothing to do with crime, but those 0.001 percent who engage in illegal activities create a bad image for the entire platform, putting the interests of our nearly one billion users at risk. That's why this year we're making a commitment to turn moderation from a sphere where "Telegram" endures criticism, in one in which he receives praise", wrote Durov on his platform.

Last month, the head of "Telegram" was detained upon arrival in France on suspicions that his platform was being used for illegal activities and was not cooperating with the authorities in the fight against them.

Earlier today, the 39-year-old billionaire said he was surprised by the allegations against him.
