Large groups of Palestinians gathered at medical centers in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, to vaccinate their children against polio yesterday in the second stage of the campaign, in which about 187,000 young people have been vaccinated so far, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said the vaccination campaign, made possible after the Palestinian Islamist movement "Hamas" and Israel agreed to temporary pauses in fighting has so far been successful but complicated.

To date, nearly 355,000 children have been vaccinated. The goal is for this number to reach around 640 thousand in the coming days.

At least 27 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip today, medics said meanwhile.

Previous figures were for 12 victims.

Israeli ground units, backed by tanks, are fighting with "Hamas" in the Zeytoun neighborhood of Gaza City.

Prospects for negotiating a ceasefire appear dim because of incompatible terms on both sides of the conflict, which blame each other for the failure of the diplomatic process, Reuters summarised.

At a press conference in Haiti yesterday, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that nearly 90 percent of the content of the deal had been agreed upon, but key disagreements remained, including on the Philadelphia Corridor.

Israel wants to maintain a military presence in the narrow strip of land along the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt - a condition that "Hamas" categorically rejects.
