A man was sentenced to 9 years in prison for the deliberate arson of a hotel in Great Britain where asylum seekers were accommodated, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

27-year-old Thomas Birley pleaded guilty to a charge of setting the hotel on fire with intent to endanger the lives of those inside.

The fire broke out on August 4 at a hotel near Rotterdam in northern England amid protests over the killing of three little girls during a dance lesson that have swept the country.

Judge Jeremy Richardson said Birley had been encouraged to start the fire by malicious and ignorant posts on social media.

The hotel where the fire was caused was attacked by about 400 people during the protests, which turned into violence, arson and looting.

These protests came after it was initially believed that the killer of the three little girls was an Islamic migrant.

During the wave of protests, 1,300 people were arrested, and 200 of them have already been sentenced.
