The missile was surface-to-surface and was fired in the direction of Central Israel. It fell in an unpopulated area and there were no casualties or material damage. Shortly before the rocket hit, sirens went off in Tel Aviv and other towns in central Israel. A loud boom was heard in the area of the rocket's impact, which Israeli forces said was the result of the missile interceptors being deployed.
A few hours later, the Yemeni Houthis claimed responsibility for the rocket fire and said they had fired a ballistic missile at a military target in the Jaffa area. The Houthis boasted that the strike was carried out with a new supersonic ballistic missile that managed to reach its target without air defense systems being able to intercept it, AFP reported. Houthi spokesman Yahya Saria added that the shelling had forced "over two million Zionists to flee and hide in shelters," Reuters reported. Saria said the missile flew 2,040 kilometers in just 11 and a half minutes.
In July, Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi rebels fired a long-range drone at Tel Aviv, killing one man and wounding four others. The attack prompted Israel to launch its most powerful airstrikes at the time against Houthi military targets near the Yemeni port of Hodeidah. In these attacks, three people were killed and 87 were injured.
