Berlin: We will not freeze arms exports to Israel - 1

The German government has denied a media report that Germany no longer issues permits to export weapons for Israel, reported DPA, quoted by BTA.

"There is no moratorium on arms exports to Israel and there won't be one,'' a spokesman for the economy ministry said late Wednesday in Berlin after a question by DPA.

A government spokesman told DPA: "There is no boycott of German arms exports to Israel.“

The ministry spokesman explained: "The Federal Government decides to issue arms export licenses on a case-by-case basis and in view of the relevant situation after careful consideration, taking into account foreign policy and security policy considerations in accordance with the legal and political requirements.“

In this way, the German government takes into account compliance with international humanitarian law, he further explained.

"When examining each individual case, the current situation is always taken into account, including attacks on Israel by "Hamas" and "Hezbollah", as well as the progress of the operation in Gaza, the spokesman said.

In a podcast published on September 11, German Foreign Minister Analena Berbock said that following attacks on Israel by the Palestinian militant organization "Hamas" on October 7, Germany has done everything possible to support Israel's self-defense.

However, under no circumstances could Germany support something that violates international humanitarian law.

"That's why in terms of arms exports...after October 7 there have been no arms exports that could be used in Gaza and that would violate international law there,” Berbock said.
