The US and many NATO countries they do not want Ukraine to become a member of the alliance. This was stated by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan in an interview with American television NBC, BTA reports.
First of all, the USA does not want to see Ukraine as a member of NATO. Many other NATO member states also do not want Ukraine to join the alliance. Given these facts, this process should not be rushed, Erdogan said.
When we make decisions, we always take into account the position of other NATO member countries. We discuss the possible issues at the negotiating table and make a final decision accordingly, Erdogan said.
He indicated that the position of other NATO member states will be important to him when considering the issue of Ukraine's admission into the alliance.
The Turkish leader added that Ankara has not made a final decision on this matter.
