Top US diplomat: World a safer place after Hezbollah leader's death - 1

Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, killed in an Israeli strike, is a brutal terrorist and the world is a safer place without him, said US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, quoted by France Press. At the same time, Blinken said that he wants to continue working for a diplomatic solution to the crisis in Lebanon, writes BTA.

„Hassan Nasrallah was a brutal terrorist who caused a lot of death, killed Americans, Israelis, civilians in Lebanon, civilians in Syria and many others,” Blinken said at the opening of a ministerial meeting in Washington of the countries of the coalition fighting against the jihadist group “Islamic State”.

„While he led “Hezbollah”, the group terrorized the entire region and prevented Lebanon from making full progress as a state,” he said.

"Lebanon, the region and the world are a safer place without him,” said Blinken.

Despite the dramatic escalation of the situation in the Middle East, the US still believes in diplomacy, the US Secretary of State also said.

„The United States will continue to work with its partners in the region and around the world to reach a diplomatic solution that brings real security to Israel and Lebanon and allows citizens on both sides of the border to return to their homes.” ;, he said.

According to him, diplomacy remains the best and only way to achieve greater stability in the Middle East. He said the United States remains committed to accelerating diplomatic efforts as a matter of urgency, including for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Last week, the United States and France appealed to the United Nations for a cease-fire between Israel and the Hezbollah group, which went unheeded and was followed by massive Israeli strikes on Lebanon.
