Incident of a press conference with German Foreign Minister Analena Berbock during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York last week led to the restriction of the access of a Russian journalist, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
A reporter from Channel One of Russian state television tried to intercept Berbok on his way to a meeting with German journalists. He then made an effort to stand next to the German foreign minister before she began her speech.
But Berbok forcefully asked him to join the other journalists so the press conference could begin.
The UN's accreditation department said the Russian reporter's actions violated media access guidelines, resulting in his authorization being restricted. However, the journalist can continue to work in the building, the accreditation department said, and said he has not been denied access.
In response, Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, filed a complaint with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, calling for the accreditation department's decision to be overturned. He claimed that the reporter did not disturb Berbock and described the confrontation with a member of the German delegation as an "assault" against the Russian.
