Yulia Navalna: Discussions with Putin are pointless, we must fight him - 1

Any discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin are pointless and it is it is necessary "to fight him", Yulia Navalna, the widow of opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who died in a Russian prison, said yesterday in Paris, AFP reported, quoted by BTA.

Invited to speak at the French Constitutional Council on the topic of democracy and law, Yulia Navalna promised to continue in exile the cause of her husband, who "fought for people to have the rights they have in a democracy".

"The West does not understand that Putin does not dream of us coming to him and asking to talk to him (...) he is not interested,", she said.

"We don't need to talk to him. I just think we have to fight him to show him that justice will one day prevail," Navalny's widow added.

Yulia Navalna lives abroad and was included in the Russian register of "terrorists and extremists" in July, shortly after a warrant was issued for her arrest on charges of "participation in an extremist group". The wife of the late Navalny promised to continue his case.

Navalny's organizations were classified as "extremist" and banned in 2021 by Russian courts, and several of his associates were sent to prison. In the repressions in Russia in recent years, almost all prominent representatives of the opposition ended up behind bars or were forced to move abroad. Thousands of Russians were arrested for protest actions or for criticizing the military offensive in Ukraine, and many of them received long sentences.

Nevertheless, it is "very important not to surrender, not to be afraid of this regime,", Navalna emphasized.
