„ We expect decent behavior from everyone in Germany on October 7,” union chairman Jochen Kopelke told the German media network RND. He emphasized that the police will take decisive action against those responsible for violence and disturbances. According to him, the security authorities will be under serious pressure and will need additional personnel, quoted by BTA.
Berlin's police union also expressed concern to RND, pointing out that the tense situation in the city could lead to dynamic developments. Pro-Palestinian demonstrations have already led to an escalation of anti-Semitic sentiment and violence.
The situation in the Middle East, including in Israel, Lebanon and Iran, is expected to influence public demonstrations in the German capital.
On October 7, 2023 “Hamas“ carried out a terrorist attack on Israel in which about 1,200 people died and about 240 were kidnapped in Gaza. Israel responded with an ongoing counterattack, putting the death toll in Gaza since then at more than 41,000, according to health authorities controlled by Hamas.
The conflict has sparked numerous pro-Palestinian demonstrations around the world, including in Germany, where some protests turned violent.
