A Russian court today sentenced American citizen Robert Gilman to seven years and one month in prison for assaulting a prison officer and an investigator, Reuters reported, citing the RIA news agency. News. In a separate decision, a Russian court sentenced American Steven Hubbard to six years and ten months.
Gilman, 30, is already serving a sentence for a drunken assault on a police officer. On October 22, 2022, Gilman was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for the attack. The sentence was subsequently reduced by one year.
Hubbard, who is 72, was accused by Russia of working as a mercenary for Ukraine. According to the Russian indictment, in February 2022 he entered into a $1,000-a-month contract with a Ukrainian unit of the Territorial Defense Forces of Ukraine in the city of Izyum. He was captured by Russian forces in April of that year. Russian state media reported that Hubbard pleaded guilty to the charges.
