Russian authorities said Tuesday they had rescued a man whose small boat had drifted for 67 days in the northwest Pacific Ocean. Unfortunately, the surviving man's brother and nephew died during the ordeal. Photos of the exhausted, bearded man in a jacket and life jacket on a catamaran with a red flag were published on social media, reports "Reuters", quoted by News.bg.

The boat was discovered on October 14 in the Sea of Okhotsk, the legal authorities in the Far East of Russia reported via the Telegram platform. "Two people died, one survived," added the regional prosecutor's office, which deals with transport incidents. The rescued man is currently receiving medical attention.

The boat was spotted by fishermen near the village of Ust-Khairuzovo, off the coast of Kamchatka. The authorities did not immediately announce the names of the injured.

According to the Russian media, the three men — two adults and a 15-year-old youth, the son of one of them — sailed on August 9 from a cape in Khabarovsk Krai with the aim of reaching the city of Okha on Sakhalin Island. Contact with them was lost soon after setting sail, and their whereabouts remained unknown.

The 46-year-old survivor is reportedly in a serious condition after his 49-year-old brother and 15-year-old nephew died during the drift.
