A court in northern Greece today imposed a suspended one-month prison sentence on a man for disturbed his neighbors by repeatedly sneaking into their properties to smell their shoes, reports the Associated Press.
The 28-year-old Greek man told the court in Thessaloniki that he was unable to explain his behavior, which he explained had caused him great embarrassment.
The convict emphasized that he had no intention of breaking the law or harming anyone, and neighbors testified that he never showed any sign of aggression during his nightly visits.
The man was arrested at dawn on October 8 in the small town of Sindos, about 15 kilometers west of Thessaloniki. Police were called after a neighbor found the accused in his front yard smelling the family's shoes, which had been left outside to air out.
The court heard that there have been at least three such incidents in the past six months, despite neighbors pleading with the accused's family to stop it.
The man was ordered to undergo psychotherapy.
