At least six people have died as a result of hurricane “Oscar“ in Cuba, where more than a third of the population is already without electricity four days after the general blackout, AFP reported.
„Unfortunately, six people have died in the municipality of San Antonio del Sur, in the eastern province of Guantanamo, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel said last night in a speech broadcast on state television.
In addition to San Antonio del Sur, the bad weather has also affected the city of Imias, located in the same province. “These two areas experienced flooding at historically unprecedented levels,” he added.
„The Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior are taking the lead in the rescue operations in these Guantanamo municipalities, where some areas are still inaccessible,” the head of state said on the “X” social network.
Hurricane Oscar, which made landfall on Sunday night with winds approaching 130 km/h before weakening to a tropical storm, finally moved away from Cuban territory last night.
