Vance: We don't like Putin, but he's not our enemy - 1

Senator J Dee Vance and candidate for vice president of the United States from the Republican Party, refrained from calling Russian President Vladimir Putin "enemy", writes The Hill, quoted by FOCUS.

Instead, he stated that he was an "adversary” and called on diplomacy to help end the war in Ukraine.

Asked if Putin was an ally or an enemy, Vance said: "I think he is clearly an adversary. He is a rival. But I think we have to be wise about diplomacy as well.

Vance said he does not approve of Russia invading Ukraine, but he says diplomacy will be needed to end the war in Ukraine.

"Just because we don't like someone doesn't mean we can't have a conversation with them from time to time. And I think it's important that, if we're ever going to end the war in Ukraine fundamentally at some level, we're going to have to engage in some kind of negotiation between Ukraine, between Russia, between our NATO allies in Europe. And this is just a necessary part, he pointed out.

Democratic vice presidential candidate Harris criticized his political opponent for pushing for Ukraine to quickly conclude an agreement to end the war.

"These are not proposals for peace, these are proposals for surrender,” she declared.
